Entering the world of Competive Sports!!

We decided that we will venture into competitive sports this year for my two oldest sons. They both dream of playing professional soccer so this is a way for them to be challenged more. They both went for try outs this week and I have to say, it was not what I expected. I watched as about 40-50 kids showcased their skills and abilities while three or four coaches watched. They explained the process of the try out and choosing a coach, and I just thought to myself, "This stuff is somewhat serious." Not to mention the expenses of uniforms, member cards, and tournaments. It felt more like a try out to get on a big name team where we as parents will have to  choose between two or three coaches. Before we even left the soccer field my sons were asking if I think they will make the team. "I don't see why not," was all I could reply. I had no qualms about either of them being chosen but I wanted to remain calm and collected. Both of them have been chosen, not surprisingly and they are excited about playing competitive soccer. They might grow up to be professional soccer players and  they might not, the excitement is in the road one travels.

  1. Many years ago I was a super competitive baseball player and since I played catcher I always made the
team because that was always a very difficult position to find someone who could play it. It was partially those years behind home plate in all that gear that has led to me knees being in such bad condition today. I say o for it but understand there is always a price to pay.

  2. Competitive sports can be very stressful and costly, but it builds a lot of character
